My name is Peter McLoughlin. I am your local Liberal Democrat candidate for the seat of Joondalup, taking in the suburbs of Joondalup, Edgewater, Heathridge, Connolly, Ocean Reef, Iluka and Currambine.
Originally from Sydney, I lived in South Africa for four years. After returning to Australia in 1986, I moved to WA to finish my medical training in Anaesthesia at the Royal Perth Hospital, where I met my wife Carol who was working there as a nurse.
We initially lived at Hillarys, and had three wonderful children. When the kids grew up and left home, we down-sized to our present home in Joondalup in 2014. We love living in this area. Its amenity and natural beauty are world-class.
I retired from medical practice at the beginning of 2020. At 64 years young, I still have much passion and energy to devote to representing the people of Joondalup if they decide to elect me.
As a parent, I want to make sure there are proper jobs for our kids when they finish their education. This means creating an environment where businesses flourish. It also means creating a space where those businesses have an incentive to take on kids without experience into entry-level jobs so they can start building that experience.
As a member of our community, I am concerned about the rising level of violence in our public spaces, much of which has been driven by crime around methamphetamine addiction. Something has got to be done. Sure, penalties need to be beefed up, but the underlying causes have to be addressed.
I am committed to our community. I am not a real estate agent and I am not an ex-union official. I have real-life experience helping people. I think we can do better.
If you feel as I do, then sign up to my campaign by completing the form opposite. Thank you!
